This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the KidShield Parent App, KidShield Kid App, and website at kidshield.help (collectively, the "Services").
By downloading, installing, or using KidShield, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Parent account details: name, email address, and password
- Child profile: name, age, and device identifier (no government ID or school data)
- One-time pairing codes used to link parent and child devices
- Support messages and feedback you send to us
Automatically Collected
- App usage data — which apps are opened and for how long on the child's device
- Screen time totals and daily breakdowns per app category
- Device GPS location (only when Location Permission is granted by the parent)
- Safe-zone entry and exit events
- Package names of newly installed apps on the child's device
- Blocked website categories (we do not log full URLs or browsing history)
What We Do NOT Collect
- Personal messages, SMS, emails, or social media content
- Photos, videos, or media stored on any device
- Microphone or camera input
- Full browsing history or specific URLs visited
- Financial information or payment card details
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide parental monitoring, app blocking, screen time management, and location tracking
- To send real-time push notifications and alerts to the Parent App
- To generate usage reports and weekly summaries for parents
- To maintain the secure pairing connection between parent and child devices
- To detect and prevent tampering or unauthorized removal of the child app
- To improve app performance, fix bugs, and develop new features
- To respond to your support requests
- To comply with applicable laws and regulations
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
KidShield is designed to be set up and managed exclusively by parents or legal guardians aged 18+. We comply with COPPA and applicable GDPR provisions for children's data.
- Accounts are created and controlled solely by parents or guardians
- Children do not create accounts or provide personal data directly to KidShield
- All data from the child's device is accessible only to the linked parent account
- Parents may review, export, or delete all child data at any time from Parent App → Settings
- We do not serve advertisements or build marketing profiles on children
👶 KidShield is COPPA compliant and GDPR-ready. We process children's data only at the direction of, and for the benefit of, the parent or guardian.
5. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your data. We share information only in limited circumstances:
Trusted Service Providers
We may share data with vendors who help us operate the Services (e.g., cloud hosting, push notifications). These providers are contractually bound to confidentiality and may only use data to perform services on our behalf.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the safety of our users.
Business Transfers
If KidShield is acquired or merged, user data may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify affected users and ensure the successor honors this Policy.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
- Activity logs and usage reports retained for 90 days then automatically purged
- Location history retained for 30 days then deleted
- Account data retained until you delete your account
Delete your account anytime via Parent App → Settings → Account → Delete Account. You may also email support@kidshield.help to request data erasure.
7. Data Security
- All data in transit between apps is encrypted using TLS 1.3
- Pairing codes are one-time, time-limited, and expire after 10 minutes
- The on-device VPN processes all web traffic locally — no browsing data is sent to our servers
- Parent passwords are hashed (bcrypt) with optional two-factor authentication
- Our servers are hosted in SOC 2 Type II certified data centers
8. Your Rights
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to certain types of data processing
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw any previously given consent
